BE VOCAL ABOUT PEACE

People from all walks of life raising their voices for peace!

Sing for Peace (formerly the Berakah Multi Faith Choir) was founded in 2013 with their debut performance being a fantastic Christmas concert in December 2013.

Featuring people from many different faith communities the choir is perfect way to meet people, learn something new and to discover the incredible joy of singing, with the support of expert tutors and the wonderful choir master Chantelle Duncan who, as well as being the lead singer in The Berakah Players has also sung with Quincey Jones, Earth, Wind & Fire and Nile Rodgers.

The choir is FREE to join, performs publicly on a regular basis and meets every Monday during term time, 7pm to 9pm,  at Richmond Adult Community College. For more info get in touch via the contact pages.

A Message From A Choir Member

“I’ve been singing with the Sing For Peace Choir, based at RACC since it started in late 2015. It’s run by Berakah Arts, a music charity that brings together people of different faiths and cultures so as to spread understanding, positivity and unity.

The Sing For Peace Choir aims to perform regularly at various events in the community, such as the local Alzheimer’s Society Supper Club. We have also performed concerts for organisations such as the World Congress of Faiths and the Inclusive Mosque Initiative. Please get in touch if you would like us to sing at your event.

I’d been thinking of joining a choir for ages but I’d always been too nervous to take the plunge, as I hadn’t sung in a choir since school. I’ve also battled with health problems and depression for many years and I was stuck in a rut. It’s often difficult to motivate yourself to go out and socialise when you’re feeling low. However, I knew that I needed to find something enjoyable to do in my life to lift my spirits. I’ve always loved singing and they say that “music is good for the soul”, so I thought I’d try out the Sing For Peace Choir.

I wanted to sing music that made me feel good and to meet new people. I like the fact that the choir welcomes everyone and promotes peace and multicultural friendship, which is very important in our troubled world today.

I can honestly say that joining the choir has been a life-saver. Mo, who set up the choir, and Chantelle, our Choir leader, are so encouraging and inspiring.

At the first session, I realised that everyone else was nervous like me. However, we were soon able to sing popular feel-good songs, just using lyrics and with the help of Chantelle’s professional but easy to understand vocal instructions. I have found my voice again. Singing is really helping to improve my confidence and self-esteem.

I look forward to going out to choir practice every week, as I know I will enjoy myself. We also share food at the end of each session! I’ve met some wonderful people in the choir and I feel privileged to call them all my friends. The Sing For Peace Choir has made me feel that life is for living. I am just one voice but together we can use the gift of music to make a difference in other people’s lives and to stand up for all that’s good in humanity.”  – Ann
